Penderites gathered at Magic Lake on New Year’s Eve for my favourite island tradition of the year: Lantern Fest – a one-of-a-kind show mixing light, music, singing, dancing and theatre. Here’s a look at the 2011 show:
Clowning around during set-up…
The parade congregates at the ball park
Penderites light their lanterns…and the parade is off!
Glorious peacock costume…
A phoenix rises from the flames!
Stilt-walking butterflies…
The whole road’s a stage!
Shadow Play on Magic Lake
Lighting the sun…
The grand finale…
I love this island.

Wow, this sound great and a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year.
I don’t think I ever saw a New Year welcomed in with so much beauty and humanity. Cheers to Pender – they “got it.”
That’s awesome! I love how the arts community seems to be thriving on your (our) little island.
What a special place!! Can see why island life is the life!
This gives me a very strong desire to move there…Oh how I love the Pacific Northwest!
:) I can’t imagine ever leaving…
