Halloumi Cheese & Bacon Pizza for Sunday Lunch
Making cheese at home is pretty easy. Ricotta, marscapone are both in my arsenal, and I’m hooked on adding more. This is my second attempt at homemade halloumi, and I think I’ve got it this time. Firm, salty and grillable — now that’s my type of cheese!
I’ll post the method soon, but in the meantime — imagine a bacon, red onion and tomato pizza, topped with lots of halloumi and grilled to perfection. Garnish it with some Charman Farms basil, and you’ve got yourself a killer ‘za.
Halloumi is a Cypriot cheese that is also popular in the rest of the Middle East. Traditionally made from a mixture of goat’s and sheep milk and set with rennet, it is unusual in that no acid or acid-producing bacterium is used in its preparation. It has a high melting point, and so can easily be fried or grilled. Intrigued? I promise the method/recipe is coming…

How do you the crust so perfect? I have the worst luck with the crust.
Wow, what a pretty pizza!
Yum! This pizza sounds delicious. I just discovered Halloumi on a recent photo shoot. Cheese you can grill… now I can get on board with that!
Ooh! I want to know how to make that! I have a yogurt maker that says you can make cheese in it too, but I haven’t tried it yet. I need to try making cheese!!! I didn’t know Charman farms had basil too! I just got some of their garlic though. YUm!
That photo is stunning, really makes this unusual-sounding pizza look to-die-for-delicious!
Making Halloumi… really? Wow!
